About CIRP and Its General Assembly

Founded in 1951 and with around 600 members worldwide, the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP – College International pour la Recherche en Productique) aims to address issues related to modern production science and technology through international scientific cooperation.

The vision of CIRP is to promote research and development in the field of production engineering among its members from academia and industry, to contribute to environmentally sustainable global prosperity and wellbeing of society.

The CIRP community

The number of members is intentionally kept limited, so as to facilitate informal scientific information exchange and personal contacts.

CIRP has some 180 Fellows and Honorary Fellows who are internationally recognised scientists elected to be CIRP members for life. Due to the limited number of CIRP Fellows, the election of a Fellow is a lengthy, rigorous process ensuring the highest possible academic standards.

CIRP also includes some 150 Associate Members who are well-known scientists, with high potential, elected typically for a period of three years with the possibility of renewal. A number of Associate Members eventually become Fellows. Some Associate Members may also belong to fields related to Manufacturing.

CIRP, although an academic organisation, encourages the participation of industry in its activities. There are some 170 Corporate Members who follow the research work of the academic members of CIRP, and very often contribute to the information exchange within CIRP by presenting their views on industrial needs and perspectives.

Young Research Affiliates and some invited members, particularly from countries not yet involved in CIRP, are also included in the CIRP community.

CIRP General Assembly

CIRP organises a General Assembly annually. This event brings together approximately 700 experts from academia and industry in the field of production engineering.

The 74th CIRP General Assembly will be held in Stockholm, Sweden, on August 17–23, 2025. This is the third time the CIRP General Assembly is held in Stockholm, with the previous two held in Stockholm in 1957 and 1972.
